Why Buy Preowned

Pre-owned, pre-loved, pre-worn whatever your adjective of choice it's good by me (ok, 'pre-loved' can probably get in the bin). There's an almost infinite list of reasons why buying clothes 2nd hand or vintage is not only good for our lovely little globe, but for your waif-ish wallet too.

I've been scouring said globe for quality cast-offs for well over a decade and honestly, I'm always amazed at why people choose to buy new clothes at retail prices. Don't get me wrong, that means there's less competition for the 'good stuff' but still...what are you guys playing at?!?

Anyway, here's a list of all the benefits that I have experiences for buying pre-owned, pre-loved, etc, etc

Sustainability - I'm sure you're all aware that fast fashion and careless consumption is the 2nd biggest contributor to emissions. If not here's the first thing I found by googling it, and while you're at it please read up on greenwashing too. With all things considered,It seems there's no such thing as sustainable fashion, but recycling clothes is as good as you can get.

Value! - As much as i'd love to sit on my high-horse and say the sole reason for putting the store together is to save the planet, sadly I just can't. You see, I'm not even a vegan for god's sake. I absolutely care about sustainability and the more I dive into that rabbit hole the more I care. But TBH there's an equally important factor in all this, Value!

True value is hard to come by nowadays, but one place you certainly don't get it is fast fashion brands, even high-end fashion labels often sell you short. Buying preowned makes top tier brands accessible to some that that could only dream of buying pieces form them.

Just to put it in prospective the average low-end fast fashion house sells 2 piece suits for just under £200, It could last 2 wears at best and will make you look like you're in six-form

At the time of writing we have a vintage Christian Dior suit for £170 and a Drake's suit for £300. Both crafted and designed to last decades (one already has).

The Hunt - It's not for everyone, and that's probably why we exist but I get a questionable buzz from locating a piece I like, doing my research and making a deal. It's so much more rewarding than an apple pay purchase.

Don't like putting the work in? relax, we've done it for you here.

Not being precious about ruining your clobber - If you've blown a bag on some cream chinos, you might be avoiding wearing them down the local curry house, or maybe even at all.

Getting preowned and for a better deal than retail gives you an extra layer of confidence to actually wear your best and not just save it for Sunday's sermon.

This new laissez-faire outlook of yours also provides zen-like detachment so when you're ready, you can sell it on.

There's a big caveat to all this, the items need to be good quality and from brands that make them to last. That mean's if you end up getting a tear or loose stitch it's not a sign of the garment being on it's last legs. It's worth the small investment in repairing any issues and that's it you'll be set for years to come. Anything i've forgot? let me know hello@archerandwoods.co.uk.
